I feel like an arse. Not so long back my friend told me about his friend who needed a guitarist and a bassist for his band. The band wasn’t doing too bad, they’d had a fair few gigs in a few citys and weren’t kidding themselves by saying they were going to be the “next big thing”, they just played to have fun. The old bassist had to leave due to University and the old Rhythm guitarist also had University but had a bit of a tiff with the drummer. So me and my friend joined, him being the guitarist they needed and me playing bass.
We’ve played for quite a while now and the band have decided that they want to bring the old guitarist back with him helping right most of the songs and being an old friend to most of them. This means evicting my friend. They’ve said to me that they think I’m quite good at bass and want me to stick on. Problem being this means my friend, my best friend, is now out. I asked him if he wanted me to leave the band as well seen as we came in together and with us knowing each other as long as we have. He obviously isn’t exactly happy with the situation but was pleased i came to him first rather then just get on with it.
So now I’m a bassist with a bunch of people i kind of know but not completely and feel guilty every time they contact me. Thing is i kinda love playing as part of a band especially when the music is loud and we’re having a laugh. Although saying that, we’re deciding what song to cover and there’s a chance we’re going to make a metal version of One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful.
I might leave this band yet.
